okay I got off the depo shot in march of 2005.. the nurse practioner siad it can take up to one year to get pregnant again...I have had a very unnormal cycle until I found out I was pregnant in june 2006... The last period I had was one April 8 for 3 days... I have a very frequent sex life so....I was very unsure. The Vaginal ultrrasound said I was dur January 17, 2007.. and the regular ultrasound siad January 10, 2007....Then I had him tell me I was due on the 7... I feel a week or two more pregnant than I am... ( I am 36.5 weeks) I have serious uterine and braxton hicks contractions for several weeks now, and I am almost 2 cm dilated...when do you suppose this baby will be here?? I am anxious.

The baby will come when it is ready...don't stress about the due date. Even dilated to 2 cm, you can never tell when he/she will be here. I was dilated to 2 at one of my appointments and my doctor said she would induce when I reached 3 cm. The next week my water broke. So make sure you are prepared...it could be any day.

Trust in yourself and your baby, he/she will come whenever he/she is ready. Do not let them induce you and do not fret about an early baby if you go into labour any time after now.

I know it is frustrating not knowing, and it is frustrating to wait at the end of pregnancy, however relaxing and not worrying about it are best for your baby.

In fact, if I were you I would consider having this baby at home. Your doctor is likely to intervene too much and cause problems. There was a study in which they did a 3rd trimester ultrasound to measure the size of the baby. For half the women they shared the results with the doctor, with the other half they did not.

For those diagnosed with a large baby their outcomes were poor compared to the women whose ultrasounds did not say it was a large baby. The women who did not have their ultrasounds shared with the doctor had similar outcomes compared to those who were not diagnosed as having a large baby EVEN those who did have a large baby.

Now this isn't what is going on with you, but I mention it to illustrate the point that the beliefs of the doctors have more to do with your outcome than the gestational week/size/etc. If your doctor believes you are postdates he will pressure you into induction which is not generally in the best interest of you or the baby. Or he will not be willing to wait as long and will cite "failure to progress" and c-section you. If they believe your baby is small or large for gestational age (even though gestational age is really unknown) it will subconsciously effect how they treat you, whether they use interventions or whether they are willing to wait.

Generally I believe home-births are safer, but for you they are definitely safer. I know I haven't really answered your question. Although if you believe you are 38+ weeks you probably are. And you will probably give birth in 2-3 weeks. Trust yourself and trust birth. Not medical science fiction, because as you have discovered they really have NO CLUE!

Congrats and best of luck.

What the hell is going on?? Maybe she gave them the wrong date of her last period, even so the Sonogram should tell the truth, and maybe she still had a period after the first two months which women can do that you know.. But from June and now Sept something is definitely wrong somewhere or just a stupid a** doc...go to another doc for another test, called SECOND OPINION.. All/any insurance will pay for that...and if she has no insurance go to family planning FREE..or the Health Dept... she might want to go to the emergency by using (example) severe back pains..No one will know the difference if she do that.. I would rather be safe that sorry over a little lie.....Emergency lie that is...

i got off the depo shot too, i was told it would take 6-12 months to get out my system, 5 moths laters, i was pregnant, i dont think due dates are anything to go on, cause something like 4% of woman actually have their baby in their due date, the rest are 2 wks early or 2 wks late, im 39 wks and anxiuos too, but unfortunatly, its something i cannot control, and we just have to wait! Good luck!
