Isn't a diva a self-indulged primma donna who doesn't care about anyone but herself? What is your definition?

Diva = Prima Donna

pri·ma donna
n.
1. The leading woman soloist in an opera company.
2. A temperamental, conceited person.

Unless you are a *1* then you are being called a *2*. I've never thought of diva's in a nice way.

Yes, it can be, but isn't always.

A Diva can also be a very successful female performer. As in one of the top female singers in the world. In that scenario, it can be a compliment.

If she's a popular person among drag queens, she might be a real Diva.

And, of course, a person can be a diva and a Diva. Think Naomi Campbell.

Me personally I don't think Diva is an insult actually it's a fairly good thing. It's a compliment and a person that has style. Just carry yourself with respect. And when you don't get the respect you don't have to yell or put your hands on someone just carry yourself with respect and keep yourself up as far as nice dress and see what results you get. Now that's a true DIVA....

Yes and No it depends on how it is used! If some one said it to me, I wouldn't mind. Diva: The term was originally used to describe a woman of rare, outstanding talent.
The term derives from an ancient Italian word meaning "goddess", which, in turn derives from the feminine form of a Latin word divus, meaning "divine one."

The term sometimes carries a comical or negative connotation, implying that a pop star who labels herself a "diva" is arrogant, difficult to work with, high-maintenance, or demanding. In slang jargon, a woman may be referred to as a "diva", suggesting that she thinks highly of herself, is demanding, or is especially dramatic.

The term can also be used positively, however, to comment a woman's talent, performance style, or stage presence, likening it to that of a famous and successful diva

It's sort of the same as princess. It originally meant a nice, sweet girl, then changed to the definition you gave. Diva used to mean strong and empowered, then changed to your definition also because people are stuck up.

No way, the next time somebody calls you a Diva, just smile sweetly and say thank you.

depends on how they say it if they say like *ugh she is SUCH a diva gahh* then yes it is an insult but if they say like *she is such a diva* then it is usually a complement you just have to pay attention to the tone of voice
