For numerous reasons:

1) The British were laying heavy and unfair taxation upon the American people.

2) The British were restricting the free trade of American commerce.

3) The British wanted the Americans to submit to the British government, namely King George and the monarchy.

4) The Americans wanted complete religious freedom rather than submitting to the Church of England. (I'm certain many modern-day revisionists will challenge this one just as they have questioned Washington's religious affiliation.)

5) The Americans were ready to adopt their own constitution, free from British laws and government.

6) The Americans wanted better teeth. (Just kidding! Couldn't resist.)

All of this required a revolution and a rebellion against the existing British presence/occupation. The American Revolution had to occur in order to adopt the Constitution AND gain independence from Great Britain.

Just as a side note, did you know America formally gained it's independence and adopted it's constitution BEFORE the British were kicked out of America.

The American Revolution had many causes. The main cause was that England was just coming off the Seven Years War with France and they were desperate for money. The King started to tax almost everything so the Americans revolted. If you need more info email me.

Complex question searching for a simple answer. Americans viewed themselves as loyal British subjects but objected to having no voice in their affairs ("taxation without representation"). King George decreed taxes & restricted trade for the Americas. Remember too, the French & Spanish had a large presence in the region.

The did not have the same rights as Englishman, they had little representation and felt they were second class citizens. They actually paid little in taxes. Most less than 1% of total income. They initially did not want to break from England just establish more representation, when this continued to fail revolution was the only answer.

The catch phrase was taxation without representation, but what motivated George Washington (and many other influential people) was the need to own his own land. The war took place so that Americans could own land and not have to pay England for it's use.

Since then most states have elected criminals (politicians) who have violated that right to land ownership by creating property taxes. If someone can take it from you due to you not paying them, you don't own it. If you need a permit to build a house on your land, it isn't your land.

a combination of things. the colonists for a time were allowed by parliament to basically govern themselves. this is called salutary neglect. after the french and indian war (aka 7 years war) the british parliament and king george 3 ended this policy and tried to exert more control over the colonists. the colonists strongly resisted this attempt by the british government.

the british government was also trying to tax the colonists for the french and indian war. albeit only for a small portion of the actual cost of the war.

these things coupled with a more independent spirit among many colonists and a resentment of the colonists in the british government for causing the french and indian war meant that the two sides couldn't reconcile their differences. this ultimately lead to the revolutionary war.

btw, angry american, can you explain #4 please?

Taxation without representation--the British colonies in America were paying lots in taxes...yet they had no say in decision making regarding themselves. That was the main reason, at least.
