Are fast food workers required to wear gloves when preparing ready to eat food? I've been to about 5 BK's and McDonald's recently and not one grill worker was wearing gloves. They were assembling burgers with bare hands. One even had a band-aid on his finger. Aren't gloves required?

It varies on what the local & state ordinaces are. Yes if they have an open cut or wound because they could infect another person. Check out WHO ( World Health Org. ) and CDC ( Center for Disease Control ) for definite state requirements. You can call your local health dept. for city ordinances.

It depends on the state and what food industry.

I work at Dairy Queen, and we aren't required to wear gloves, and actually the owner really doesn't recomend us wearing them, but when you have gloves on you can't really tell when your hands are dirty...and of course, you don't wash your hands as often. So I ended up trying it one time, and I found it was TRUE!! I washed my hands a lot more when I didn't wear gloves...of course, we are required to was a LOT! With soap, and it has to be AT LEAST one minute.

Oh, one thing I did notice a couple times is that when people put on gloves...they touch the outside of the gloves with their hands, and most of the time the glove box is open, with dust and any other junk that goes in there

In some states gloves are required however the majority do not require gloves. However they do require that you wash your hands every 20 minutes, to prevent contamination and bacteria from spreading. When I was the manager at McDonald's employees were not required to wear them but I insisted.

Wearing glove doesn't guarantee. One time I saw a food handling wear glove to clean the table and pick up trash, then he went to assemble food for the customer.

Gloves are required to be worn, but many fast food workers just don't care and the worst part is that their managers set the bad example themselves.

Different states and countys have diff. specs. But anyone that will eat where gloves are Not worn is asking to get sick. In Denton Tx. yrs. back Hep. 1 was passed to everyone thru the ICE. In Texas you ARE required to wear gloves.

Yes they are suppose to wear gloves,
If they care of the public they will wear gloves.
hair needs to be tied back or a hair net worn
an apron should be worn.
You can tell the manager about your grief the next time you see this or better still don't eat in these places.

I worked in a Burger Chef 40 years ago.. the burgers were flame broiled like BK's, and we pulled the sizzling meat off the chute and flopped it on a bun bare-handed. No one ever got sick like they do now....
