When Queen Elizabeth passes away, Prince Charles is technically next in line to inherit the throne as King. However, if she were to step down as Queen before her death, can she appoint Prince William as King? Even if she were to die, can she have it written somewhere that Charles not be in next in line and the throne go to William?
Also, where does Prince Andrew fit in to all of this? Charles is next in line,,,so wouldn't it be his eldest son, William to take the throne after him and then Harry? Or Charles, William and then a son of William's?
And please only respond if you have a real clue as to what you are talking about.
I think had read somewhere or heard that she has made sure to not have Charles take the throne which is why she hasn't stepped down as Queen yet?

We have a Constitutional Monarchy in this country. Unless he abdicates, Charles will be King when H.M. Queen Elizabeth II dies, it is his birthright. He will also be King if the Queen should step down...it is his birthright....but she won't do that.
Charles will be our next King, but if anything should happen to him, the crown will go to William. If William has married and had children...male or female, then if anything happens to him his eldest son will inherit the crown. If he doesn't have any sons, then it will go to his eldest daughter. If he should die before he has any issue then the crown goes to Harry...and then on through his children. If Harry should die without children, then, and only then will the crown go to Andrew....and then on through his daughters.......

Charles will definitely become King. It would take extreme circumstances for him not to. I'm pretty sure the Queen is powerless to stop him and she wouldn't want to. Prince Andrew and the Queen's other children (Anne and Edward) are pretty unimportant really. Prince Andrew is 4th in line but would be King only if Prince Charles, William and Harry died which is unlikely. Harry is unlikely to ever be King because if William has sons, they will be next in line, but if William dies as King without children, Harry will become King. The natural line is Charles, William and then William's eldest son.
The Queen hasn't stepped down because she still really likes her job and does it well. I'm English and it's true that after Diana died, people were really anti-Charles but we've seen how well he has brought up William and Charles and we've mellowed towards him (even regarding Camilla). Some people still have a problem with him, but most people are OK with Charles as King.

The Queen does NOT have the power to choose her successor. According to existing acts of Parliament, Charles is her successor, and that could only be changed by a new Act of Parliament passed while the Queen is alive.
The Queen does have the power, like Edward VIII had, to abdicate the throne on behalf of herself and all her own heirs. That would make Viscount Linley the King immediately, but you can judge for yourself how likely she is to do such a thing.
The Queen probably has the power to transfer all her responsibilities to a Regency Council, and to set it up including or excluding certain people in the first instance. But her successor would still be determined according to whatever Act of Parliament was in force.

This question is right up my alley. First wheither Her Majesty abdicates in favor (which is unlikely to happen because of her strong since of duty) or she passes away, Prince Charles will be next in line either way. Ascending the throne is his birthright. The line of sucession is this:Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (Andrew and Fergie's daughters), Prince Andrew, Zara and Mark Philips (Princess Anne's children), Princess Anne, Lady Louise {Prince Edward's daughter} then Prince Edward and so on and so forth. Any children Prince William will have will go before Prince Harry. Though it is has been 70 yrs since the Queen's uncle, Edward VIII abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson, the English are still a bit sensitive about the idea of the abidication of a monarch. Other European royal houses such as the Dutch and The Grand Ducal family of Luxembourg have experienced great success with the sitting monarch abdicating in favor of their children. For example, the present Dutch queen, Queen Beatrix came to the throne after her late mother Juliana abdicated in favor of her in 1980. After Queen Juliana abdicated, she was known as Princess Juliana, Queen Beatrix's grandmother like wise stepped down in favor of her daughter, And in 2000, Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg stepped down in favor of his son who is the current monarch and a new grandfather.

I think sarch_uk answered your question pretty well. She sounds like she knows her Royal Family. Give her the 10 points.

Harry will not go to the throne.
He is the "spare" not the heir, because he wasnt first born.
