I'm a 18 year old college student and would like to get into acting for film, not stage, here in Los Angeles.

How do I accomplish this? Obviously I need headshots. Black/White or color? How much should I pay and how many should I get?

I've heard of SAG but do I need to become a member? If so, Why?

Should I get an Agent first? There's so many rip off agent scams out there in LA so how do I look for reputable ones?

Black and White headshot. Prices can vary, just make sure it's on nice sturdy photo paper (no joke) and a GREAT picture of yourself.
Get as many as you can and glue your resume to the back of all of them. Every actor should be doing several auditions a day (let's face it, it's hard to break into the acting world) and get use to rejection.

SAG - you either have to pay a lot of money or do a big gig. There are ups and downs to becomming a member. Research it.

Agents are very helpful, they tell you where auditions are. If you cannot afford an agent, you'll have to do your own research on where to audition. An agent will also be your connection to the higher ups. Research and ask friends about which ones to go to, that's the only way to know for sure, since they won't come out and say they're con artists. Look at their list of actors and see the work they've done.

You do NOT need to take acting classes. Casting directors don't care, just as long as you're good. If you think you need to brush up on your enunciation or acting, then take a class or two. But classes never promised anyone a part.

Biggest thing - the part of your job as an actor is getting roles, which means auditioning several times a day and accepting rejection. It's part of your life as an actor.

Break a leg, man!
