First of all, relax. Keep in mind an average is just that, an average and not a rule. There are kids on the low end of average and kids on the high end of average. Some babies are small and healthy. Fat doesn't automatically mean healthy. If you and the father of the baby are on the smaller side, then odds are your baby will be on the smaller side.
If you have been engaging in any kind of high-risk behavior like smoking, dieting, overexercising, doing drugs or you have a very poor diet, the baby's weight could be at risk. Same goes if you are very young or very old. But, it could just be that your due date has been miscalculated.
The ultrasound is just a precaution. Take extra good care of yourself as you get into the home stretch of your pregnancy. The baby gains the most in size during the last weeks of pregnancy. Continue to eat well, sleep as much as possible and monitor the baby's movements by doing kick counts.

I wouldn't worry unless the doctor gives you some specific reason to. Your baby is smaller than average. Average is just that--the size most, not all, babies are at eight months. Some will be larger, some will be smaller. Yours happens to be smaller, that's all.

The doctor probably ordered the ultrasound just as a precaution to make absolutely sure that there isn't anything wrong. He's just doing his job and being a good physician. Personally I'd be more worried if he told you the baby was smaller than average and then didn't order an ultrasound.

No. Don't worry. It could just mean the placenta isn't working as well anymore. Usually if that is the case they will keep an eye on the baby and take it when the time is right. Besides... any ultrasound during pregnancy is one more chance for you to see your little one and one more chance to bond more. Good luck

No I would not get worked up or worry yet.

The same thing happened to me with my first pregnancy My Dr. told me that my son was probably only about 4 lbs and he said he was a little concerned but, just two weeks later when I gave birth 7 days early mind you, he came into the world weighing 8 lbs 1.4 oz.!!!!!!!!!!

Congradulations by the way!

Don't worry unless the doctor specifically tells you something is wrong. Worry and stress is very hard on a pregnant woman. Your baby could just be petite like mine is. Congratulations on the new baby!

I wouldn't worry about it until you get the results . . . some babies are just small. That is no real indication of the babies health. Just wait and see. I know it's not easy.

Good Luck!
