I'm having trouble connecting the people in the tv series to the books. I know the geneology of the books has Caroline and Charles having three girls and one boy (who died within a year or two) - but is there any truth to all these other kids that (on the show) Caroline and Charles seem to raise - like James (who almost dies at 12 years old) and Albert? How many of the characters on the show were created outside of the biographical info?

Definitely the books show an accurate portrayal of the family. Those books are the words of the real Laura. The TV series was written by a bunch of Hollywood yahoos looking to cash in.

I didn't realize according to the books they had a boy, but I do know they had several girls. Mary, Laura, Carrie, and Grace, in that order. I don't remember James and Albert in the books, but some of it could still be based on real life, including those characters. I think the books are more accurate though.

The tv show is okay, but the books are so much better. I have never really been able to wrap my head around the idea of Melissa Gilbert as Laura or Michael Landon as Pa. Also, I always thougt Mr. Edwards was a younger man.
