Why did George W Bush, current President of USA ask Tony Blair, current Prime Minister of UK to lend him some of the UK's BEST assets to sort his Middle East problems out?

Why Did George W Bush authorise 77% of U.S. troops out of Afghanistan leaving UK and NATO troops dangerously thin on the ground without decent body armour - body armour that will at least stop a small arms bullet from killing a young soldier - to sort his mess out?

Why can't UK troops be issued with proper equipment to get the job completed that the U.S. troops have been withdrawn from?

Although I agree that the invasion of Afghanistan was justified (the Taliban should have been toppled during the Clinton administration), the decision to remove troops for the unjustified invasion of Iraq was an extremely stupid decision.

Afghanistan is now drifting out of control, with a resurgent Taliban movement inducing chaos, and the remaining forces gradually losing control due to inadequate numbers.

Why? Considering the amount of evidence currently extent, that the Bush administration pretty much lied in its justification to invade Iraq... one can only assume that the Bush administration had ulterior motives.

What those motives might have been remain unknown. It could be a simple revenge act on the part of a son, angry that Saddam paid for an assassination attempt on his father.

Or it may be the the ludicrous neo-conservatives convinced themselves that Iraq posed a threat. There is a concept called 'group think' in which every member, or at least some members, disagree, but are reluctant to state their concerns in light of an apparent group consensus.

Robert McNamara discussed this in his review of the decision to go forward with the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba... so it has certainly occurred in the past.

Because he wants out of to the "right" war, and to ramp up the "wrong" war. Another reason is Afghanistan only produces heroin, opium, and hash while Iraq has oil.
