getting house of the dead and 2 guns hopefully. not too keen on puzzle games like tomb raider. what do you recommend?

Long live the Dreamcast!
It has MANY excellent 2-4 player games. Toy commander and Outtrigger stick out in my mind, along with Soul Calibur and The Typing of the Dead (if you're in the UK you will need to import that from the US, easy on eBay, and WELL WORTH IT of course you need DC keyboards but they are cheap as chips now!) MSR, F355 Challenge, Fur Fighters and many more games have excellent multiplayer modes too. Some of the puzzle games are worth a look. Also, if you are an RPG fan, bag yourself a copy of Skies of Arcadia, it's one very VERY good RPG.

powerstone 1 + 2 are great multiplayer fun, but its much better with 4 players.
house of the dead is brilliant with the guns, one of my fav dc games.
and if your into fighting games then soul calibur is MUCH better than virtua fighter, or try king of fighters if your into old style 2d fighters.
another half decent 2 player game is vigilante 8, car based shoot em up - another of my favourite games from a few years back.

soul calibur, ready to rumble 1&2, sonic shuffle. those are the only good 2 player games i owned.

Powerstone for sure, but it is fairly rare. There is always soul caliber and dead or alive 2
