imports vs v8?

Why do people with imports think their 4 bangers can beat American V8s?

i dont know what some of you are talking about if you had a ricer with a 4 cylinder and put $5000 into it and i had my 69 charger and put $5000 into it i could get 1000hp and make your car cry

because of movies like the fast & the furious series and games like Need For Speed. Half of the tuner culture is making your car look nice, the other half is embarassing the domestic market performance wise. Look in any tuner mag and you will see more advertisements for performance upgrades and instant HP gains that what you would find in an issue of Hot Rod or Car Craft or any other muscle car magazine. Parts for imports are so damn cheap that any little ricer with a base model civic, integra, focus, or any of the like can upgrade at will and make their car look (and often sound) like complete ***. Now looking through an issue of Hot Rod you will find half as many advertisements but the things advertised will give you significant increases in HP even though you may have to spend quite a bit to get that significant jump.

No matter what anyone says the sound of a V8 will OWN any little 4-cyl with a fart can. Even a properly modded V6 can sound great and lay a shellacking on an import or 2.

Wrong section to be bashing American Muscle cars. I got half way in your rant, and pretty much came to the conclusion that you have no idea what you are talking about. If you want to take your little ricer and beat his Mustang you will need to spend a bunch of money. I am thinking in the ball park of 8 to 10 grand. Like you said you don't got no money, and the only way can get money is by being thief. Even if you and him do not get along that does not give you the right to steal. On to the american symbol thing. If you ask a Chevy guy what is the symbol of American Muscle cars more then likely they will say Camaro or Corvette. In my opinion its the Chevelle. If you ask a Ford guy that same question they will more then likely say Mustang. Same goes for the Mopar boys. So quit being a little cry baby and just except that your neighbor has a faster car then you do. I'm sorry to tell you this but if you put any ricer up against a muscle car more then likely the ricer is gonna lose. Just read the question again. I will admit that the first time I got half down and stopped. Ok, I have building and restoring cars for about 10 years now and for you to say I/we don't know nothing about cars is bs. About the ricer comment. A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to): Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder. As for the tractor, you clearly stated that you have it in your basement. Meaning that you took property from someone with out permission. I also went and sat on my front porch for about 2 hours today and only counted 4 Mustangs. Yes they are popular, but so are 240 sx. Now, what to do about the neighbor, well save all your money and if you want put a different engine in your 240 sx, but like I said its gonna come at a high price. Even if you do put a high performance engine in it there is no guarantee that you will beat him. Reason being is if you put to much power you will not get traction. The other problem will be driving skill. I am not you or him don't have any its just something to consider. Again sorry that I did not read the entire question, but we get so many of the long winded ranting questions that I get bored half way down and just give an answer.

There are a lot of them that can not only BEAT American V8 powered cars, but can absolutely embarrass them.

How about a 4 banger that runs in the 9's? Can your big V8 even come CLOSE to running in the 9's?

Because of numerous experiences where I have. It is all about power to weight ratio. If my four banger can produce 210 HP and weigh in at 1700 lbs it would take a 4300 pound V8 over 400 HP to keep up with it.
Currently I have a supercharged V6 that puts out 330 HP and my car weighs 2200 Lbs. I have watched many Mustang GT drivers cry.

because they can.The only formula that matter's where speed is concerned is horsepower to weight ratio.Every real racer domestic or import knows this.This is why my 1900lb civic with 241whp n/a can run elevens on slicks and very low 12's on drag t/a's .While i pay almost nothing in insurance,get great gas milage and spank vet's/stangs &hemi's all day long.Ask any racer what motor trend says a car can run in the quarter,add at least .5 second to that or more at toronto motorsport park.I've never seen a stock z06 run elevens.New mustangs and hemi charger's(new) always stock run over 14 in the quarter.Why do you think motorcycles are fast if they only have 100hp.Only ignorance can explain this question.

lol i don't know, but to tell you the truth they can, if you put the money in the 4 banger and not the v8 you can beat it...lol put the same money in just bout any v8 and it will BLOW away that i4

the gear reduction gives the 4 bangers more top end, but a lot less torque.

damn movies... they should have never created fast and the furios. its just because they have a loud exhaust on their four banger, they think they can beat v8's... Also, they are cheap...
