Yes you can drive, automatic or manual - no difference you have passed your test and you can drive.

Can I add to the stupid person who put thumbs for my answer, she is NOT asking can she drive a manual when she passed in an automatic she is asking can she drive due to the comments made by her male friends saying she cannot really drive until she has done an manual - basically a sexiest comment - read the question properly - IDIOTS

Nothing wrong with Automatic. I'm male, an advanced driver and racing qualified (almost) driver and I still maintain that Automatic is superior as a safe machine. There is no question that when driving for the pleasure of it or when driving in competitions manual is far superior, but apart from the legal stipulation it's safe to talk on the phone and drive with an auto, and if your driving in your sleep which in certain circumstances we all come close to at some point you need less concentration to drive an auto than we do a manual. Therefore it's much more work to drive a manual than an auto.

If you want to race somebody that is a sports driver then Auto will let you down, but most drivers will not admit to the fact they are not good enough to out-perform the computer that controls the Auto gearbox. The main drawback is that an auto gearbox is physically much weaker than a manual, so problems a manual will shrug off will create problems with an auto.

The hand foot co ordination required to drive a manual can be difficult to master but itwould make sense to learn to drive a manual and pass the test, I am sure a local driving instructor will be able to help, bear in mind UK manual gearbox cars usually have 10 to 20% better fuel mileage and better performance and safer handling, no unexpected gearchanges on a slippery road, or failure to downchange when you want to overtake.
I find Automatics very frustrating to drive it is nearly impossible to drive smoothly, which is an absolute nescessity if you are to drive considerately, without either constant fiddling with traction control buttons or sudden bursts of high revs, but for driving like a loony an auto makes an awful lot of sense as you can sit inches behind the vehicle you want to overtake and when the opportunity arises floor the throttle the gearbox downchanges and with a sickening lurch you are propelled forwards at considerable speed, what is desperately difficult in an auto is coping with ice, I hit a patch completely unexpected at 60 mph on a bend and pushing the clutch to the floor and coasting round kept it on the road, you cannot do that with an auto.

Learning to drive a manual isn't difficult. If you have a friend who possesses both PATIENCE and a vehicle with a manual transmission, you can do it. It's usually easiest to find a large empty parking lot and practice there at first.

If nothing else, it's nice to know you could do it if you really had to.

In the states more vehicles than ever before seem to come with automatics. I'm a Triumph fan, and the only quality triumph magazines I can find come from the UK. It looks like manual transmissions have historically been the norm there, but maybe things are changing there as they have here. With no firsthand information, I really couldn't say . . .

Gender has NOTHING to do with it, by the way.

Your licence only allow`s you to drive automatic vehicle`s i am afraid you HAVE to take a further test in a manual if you wish to drive that class of car ! Regardless of the amount of years you have had a full licence !
You can refer to the information booklet INS57P that you got with your licence or you can get leaflet D100 from a post office that will explain your entitlement !
Also you can visit www.dvla.gov.uk/drivinglicence and view the information there !
If you should be caught driving a manual car on a automatic licence your insurance would be void .
This i can confirm with 100% accuracy as i have defended a similar case in the last 6 month`s .

Your male friends are fools.
A licence to drive is just that.
I can't drive a truck or a bus and don't want to.
But unlike some of my moody friends I have an incident free licence with no points ever and a fully protected no claims bonus.
Maybe your male friends mean unless you drive like a t*at you are not considered good enough.
Ignore them

I drive a truck for a living and I would say that women are far better drivers. As for driving an automatic, not much harder to learn driving with a manual gearbox

You can drive an automatic. They can drive manuals and automatics. Some of them can probably drive motorbikes. Bet none of them can drive a trolleybus or a tracklaying vehicle steered by its tracks.

If you can drive what you want to drive, don't worry about the things you don't want to drive.

Driving a manual isn't a big deal. I just learned and honestly, I'd rather have the option to talk on my cell, fix makeup and/or play with my ipod when Im in the car.

Enjoy the automatic license. Unless you really want to be a race car driver....those peeps love stick shifts.

I'm glad I learned.."just in case"...but I could live with never driving a manual in my life.
