While it is a dramatic human interest story of how Man is willing to put ones life in jeopardy in order to save another human being this story...
These men decided to climb a treacherous mountain, in winter conditions, and get stuck and stranded all by themselves.
I have to ask myself...why?
Why do those men climb Mt Everest and enter the "Death Zone" and risk their lives? Who does it benefit? Makes an entertaining story but couldn't we watch some actors on a Green (Blue) Screen do the same thing and not risk any ones life.
These 3 men were not the smartest, but 3 very self serving and selfish men.
Why couldn't they climb the Mountain in the Summer??? When it is warm! When if they did get into trouble others would not be at as much risk to save their lives
Why didn't they plan their trip properly and get an accurate weather report? DUH!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps others not to climb in the Winter!

Its sad for the families, but I don't understand how it counts as national news for the better part of...whats it been...two weeks?
Its a lesson to learn, don't climb a mountain when a blizzard is coming.
Much more important an far reaching things are going on at all times, but the news often spends an in ordain amount of time on stories like this.

I definitely feel sorry for the families, but the story is WAY overblown. You take a risk when you go climbing like that, and it's not worth the AMOUNT of attention it's getting. Want to start taking bets on how long it's going to be before the Movie of the Week about it is made?

I have to agree with you. They went up there upon their own accord and they knew what the risks were. I heard their families are thinking of suing the mountain/parks division for not putting up signs saying the mtn was unsafe. I think it's a load of crap - those guys were experienced climbers who knew the risks of traversing the mountain in the middle of winter.

*raises hand* How many times can the news report on a story with no new developments? These guys got themselves into this mess, now there are rescuers out there risking their lives to find them...

sucks for them and they're families but there's troops dying in iraq everyday and no one makes that big of a deal about it. it's december, bad storms, avalanches. they may have been experienced but they're stupid.
dumb things?? you know how many people climb mountains like that? only a small fraction of them get lost and killed. is it dumb to get on a plane? car? bus?
life's to short to sit back and watch people have fun.
