The similarities are that both are forms of cell division. They also have similar stages: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. Both also start out with a diploid number of chromosomes (number of chromosomes doubled).

The differences are that only sex cells go through meiosis. Meiosis helps even down the number of chromosomes in cells that will eventually become eggs and sperm. Meiosis also has two divisions to make a grand total of four cells, not Mitosis' two. Meiosis also has other stuff to go through, such as crossing over, when similar chromosomes exchange similar segments.
