I keep on reading more and more about how underage drinking is a big problem in this country. However on a night out recently, all of my group were aged between 24 and 28 i.e 6-10 years older than the legal age, and all of us got asked for id to proove we were over 18 during the night out. Further to that, I know plenty of people in their mid-late 20s who still get asked. Yet these same places are known to be serving 16 year olds. I admit I was once an underage drinker myself but that begs the question how did I manage to get a drink in the pub when I was 15 but could have potentially been refused had I got no ID now. In addition, i never got asked for ID when I was 18,19 or 20(I wanted to because I could proove my age by then)then since turning 21 it has started happening. On that basis and from personal experience, are they just cracking down on people blatently old enough and letting the younsters in on purpose or do pub workers really think 20 somthings look younger than 16 year olds

It's an absolute joke!!! Shameful. So long as this culture will be one where 'it's cool to be drunk', it's hopeless!

I think they are dealing with it properly. I work in a shop and you have to look over 21 or you will be asked for ID. Some 16 year olds do look over 18 but many wouldn't look over 21 would they. I always ask because if I sell alcohol to someone underage, I will get the fine and not the shop. You always have to carry ID around now, you have so many fines if an underage drinker is caught in a pub. The government has done everything it can, what else do we want them, to do? If young people do drink then it's because they got the drink from an older friend or nicked it from their parents house. The government can't really stop that can they. I also think that underage drinking in pubs is a result of some of the bouncers fancying young girls, it's true! They always let more women than men in a club around here. The government would have to sort out the bouncers.

With the new law now imposed in UK that police can confiscate any alcohol that you're drinking in the street I think a lot of underage drinking may be stopped as most over 18's do not drink in bus stops or street corners.
As for getting asked for ID, perhaps some bar staff are being over zealous in your area . Don't forget if they serve someone that's underage they can get prosecuted too. Maybe they've been raided recently and got a warning from the police

youth do not comprehend the thank you to decline to make sure stress, that's an indication of stupidity. To think of they wanna decrease the ingesting age gimme a ruin. Many youthful drinkers (as much as age 30) stay at homestead, not all paintings fulltime so they don't look to be financially in charge for their movements. I gotta maximum appropriate you from own journey drunks do not comprehend what they're doin maximum of the time if it wasn't so undesirable for human beings to drink underage then it does not be unlawful ceremony in simple terms because of the fact somebody's21 makes them in charge there are drunks in all age communities

I am not sure what the answer is. It seems to of got out of control over the last 10 years, we always had a good time and a lot to drink but now youngsters just go out to get hammered and get as much down their neck as possible.
You see kids that have spent a lot of time (girls and lads) getting dressed up nicely for an evening out, falling about in all states of undress screaming shouting and swearing in the centre of most of our towns as weekends.

Are you having a laugh? NOTHING is being dealt with properly, cos it's in the wrong hands. If anyone starts objecting, it's all about Human Rights, so you can't even tell the teenagers they're too young to smoke or drink.

There's enough legislation, just not enough police about. Without wishing to attract a landslide of dissent, I think I'd prefer the police were chasing up murderers, muggers and rapists rather than dealing with vomiting teenage miscreants.

Like always the control freak approach backfires - people are fed up of being told what to do and having their liberties eroded. On the continent children are introduced to watered down wine and hey they grow up with more responsible attitudes to drinking.
