The blue whale is the largest mammal on earth and the largest animal to ever live on earth, weighing in with a 85-100 foot body that is 100 tons or more heavy. They are even bigger than the biggest dinosaurs. I read that 50 humans can stand on its tongue, and a baby could crawl through its arteries with room to spare.

The Blue Whale is by far the most massive, but a type of sea jelly called "Lions Mane" can top the length of a Blue Whale at about 150 ft.

To correct the bad data from a PP, The Whale Shark is the largest fish, not the Great White Shark, which is not really close to being the biggest. The Basking shark is another fish that comes to mind as being bigger.

The Ostrich is the largest bird, not the stork..

The largest reptile is the saltwater crocodile, not the Komodo Dragon.

The largest land mammal is the African Elephant.

The largest living in the world (and believed to be the largest in the history of the world) is the Blue Whale. They can reach up to 98 feet (30 meters) and weigh up to 196 tons (177 metric tons). By contrast, the largest elephant (the largest living land animal) shot weighed only a mere 26,400 pounds, or a little more than 13 tons. However, there are hints that there is a far larger animal in the ocean from a phenomenon known as "Bloop." An ultra-low frequency was picked up near the South American Southwest Coast by equipment from the US Navy used to pick up sounds of Soviet submarines. The frequency lasted over one minute, and was large enough to be picked up at a distance of 5000 kilometers. No animal living can create such a noise, leaving some to believe that there are larger, more mysterious things in the ocean.

BLUE WHALE
(Balaenoptera musculus)

Factoid: The blue whale is the largest animal ever to inhabit the Earth.

Status: Endangered

Population: Estimated between 1,300 to 2,000, the population of blue whales is dangerously low.

Threats: Blue whales face threats from entanglement in fishing nets, pollution, and illegal whaling.

Survival: The lifespan of a blue whale is estimated to be 80 years.

Blue whales are found throughout the world's oceans. These gentle giants have grayish-blue skin with light spots. Measuring 70 to 80 feet in length (the longest recorded length was 106 feet), blue whales can weigh as much as 90 to 150 tons, although females are larger than the males.

Blue whales generally spend winters in temperate and subtropical zones, migrating toward the polar regions in spring and summer. They swim 14 miles per hour (with bursts as fast as 30 mph) and feed at depths of less than 330 feet (but can dive as deep as 1,640 feet). Dives last from 10 to 20 minutes. Usually they travel alone or in small groups of two to four, although off the coast of California some groups as large as 60 have been seen.

Blue whales have about 300 to 400 baleen plates instead of teeth which they use to strain food from the ocean water. A blue whale can eat up to 7,715 pounds of krill (small shrimp-like organisms) per day!

Blue whales were once considered too difficult to hunt because of their speed and tremendous size. However, with the introduction of factory ships and the harpoon gun in the 1920s, blue whales were hunted intensively. By the 1960s they were nearly extinct.

Blue Whale:

The Blue Whale is believed to be the largest animal ever to have lived on Earth. The largest known dinosaur of the Mesozoic era was the Argentinosaurus, which is estimated to have weighed up to 90 tonnes (100 short tons). There is some uncertainty as to the biggest Blue Whale ever found. Most data comes from Blue Whales killed in Antarctic waters during the first half of the twentieth century and was collected by whalers not well-versed in standard zoological measurement techniques. The longest whales ever recorded were two females measuring 33.6 m and 33.3 m (110 ft 3 in and 109 ft 3 in) respectively. However, there are some disputes over the reliability of these measurements. The longest whale measured by scientists at the American National Marine Mammal Laboratory (NMML) was 29.9 m long (98 ft) — about the same length as a Boeing 737 aeroplane or three double-decker buses.

A Blue Whale's head is so wide that 50 humans could stand on its tongue. Its heart is close to the size of a small car. A human baby could crawl through a Blue Whale's arteries. During the first 7 months of its life, a baby Blue Whale drinks approximately 400 litres (100 US gallons) of milk every day. Baby Blue Whales gain weight as quickly as 90 kg (200 pounds) every 24 hours. Even at birth, they weigh up to 1350 kg (3,000 lb) – the same as a fully-grown hippopotamus.

Blue Whales are very difficult to weigh because of their massive size. Most Blue Whales killed by whalers were not weighed as a whole, but cut up into manageable pieces before being weighed. This caused an underestimate of the total weight of the whale, due to loss of blood and other fluids. Even so, measurements between 150 to 170 tonnes (160 and 190 short tons) were recorded of animals up to 27 m (88 ft 6 in) in length. The weight of a 30 m (98 ft) individual is believed by the NMML to be in excess of 180 tonnes (200 short tons). The largest Blue Whale accurately weighed by NMML scientists to date was a female that weighed 177 tonnes (196 short tons).
