Hi - I'm an accountant. You will have to file 2 state tax returns this year. You will have to file a non-resident tax return in NY State and residential tax return in NJ State. You won't pay anymore taxes than someone who files in just one state. Get an accountant.

I too worked in NY but lived in NJ. I paid taxes in NJ but also paid "commuter" taxes in NY. I suggest using an accountant.

Sure you will pay property taxes in NJ if you own a home. In NY you pay all your state and federal employment taxes. All your income taxes in other words go to NY.

you will be affeced by both in the long run, though your NY taxes will come out of your check.
