I noticed that when I am trying to get to sleep I will start rocking myself kinda like you would a baby. I also sleep on my side kinda curled up sorta fetal position. Does anyone else do this? Is it normal?

I've done the same thing since I was a baby! My daughter's and my sister's children still do or have done it as well. I noticed that I would do this initially thinking that I was trying to get warm, then it dawned on me that it was a way of soothing myself and rocking my own grown self to sleep. Is it normal? What's normal? LOL I think it's perfectly OK!

Ha Ha! OMG! Diablus, that reminded me of my little brother (he's now 40) he used to crouch on his knees, top of head to the pillow, and rock that way. If that didn't work, he softly hit his head to the pillow, yes,,I was sure he'd be "touched" in the head!!

You just described a normal person who has ever lived in a mother's womb. As psychology explains, you rock yourself to sleep because that's what your mom did to you when you were in her womb as a fetus. Also the fetal position is so called because that's the position you took also in the mother's womb.

It's normal to use these behaviors to help you fall asleep, but if you want to find out WHY, here are some of my theories:
--Some people believe that people who sleep in the fetal position are protective of themselves and don't like to open themselves up to people.
--You are dependent on your mother/family and revert back to your fetal ways to make yourself more vulnerable.

I myself sometimes sleep in the fetal position...it's comfy!

It's normal, some people take comfort in rocking themselves back and forth. It is also a part of human nature- when you go to sleep, you feel comforted when rocking yourself to sleep because it may be instinctual- sort of like the feeling you had as a child.

Crazy people don't rock themselves. I rock myself because it feels good and just seems to feel right. And I can't go to sleep unless I am curled up. When I have nightmares I always wake up and find that I've uncurled myself.

that's no longer something to tension approximately. My brother did that as quickly as we've been young ones. It basically appeared extraordinary whilst he could roll around in each and every single place, yet he replaced into quickly asleep. He did advance out of it.

Brother is that type so it's very normal surely...but annoying to me...

In any case I know someone else who's used to bang his face into the pillow repeatedly until he falls to sleep...in nay case who cares...it's none of anyone else's buisness
