Yes there is. I believe sometimes the underlying reason is subconscious, but it's there. Our minds work on so many different levels that we can't consciously keep track of it all.

That's going to depend on whether you accept quantum uncertainty and chaos effects as "reasons"

If you phrase it "There's a reason why we cannot predict the weather" you're ok.

But if you insist all reasons are effectively linked in a newtonian determinism, you're in trouble.

Is the roll of a die a reason, or chance?
Is there a reason behind a random number generator picking lottery winners? That's going to initiate a very definite "caused" sequence of events, but getting to the reason behind the electronic noise which is used to produce the numbers is not trivial.

No. Lots of things happen for no reason. Birth and death are two.

But 99 percent of the time there is an underlying reason.

no...sometime things happen because of gross negligence or improper planning...an officer in fort worth recently got ran over by a drunk driver while helping someone change a flat tire...he had two daughters and a wife and had only been working as a officer for about 8 months...most times things are totally preventable....that person didn't have to drink that day...or drive...or speed...but they did...and in the process they ended someone's life...i don't hink there was a reason for that...I don't think God would want his life to end so tragically but it did and it's because that driver didn't follow the rules he deliberatly broke the law and as a result his caused great pain...THERE IS SIMPLY NO REASON FOR THAT!!!

Yes, as we are the sum of everything that happens to us and the tendencies of what we inherit there are always deep, hidden reasons for what we are and what we do.

No. Everything said, everything understood or misunderstood, every action, or everything that happens, does NOT necessarily have a reason. It just is.

my philosophy is, "for every purpose there is a reason"

for example:
why are you buttering the crust? so it doesnt dry out
why do you drive below the speed limit? so i dont get in trouble and save gas

hope that helps!

I have to think so, otherwise I just might go insane. It's too unbearable to think somethings happened for no reason.. so I just say "it happens for a reason" and that's how i cope.
