Some of them have not gotten into their heads that College, University or that level of education leads to their future.
They are still on that whole being in High School mentality.
Unfortunately for them, they have to live with their decisions and lack of studying as they may not get the job they want or if they do bad, might not even make it through school...
Sometimes it is also because they are not paying for school. Mommy and Daddy have footed the bill, so they have not yet had to learn to be responsible.
In the end, the joke is on them though.
I have known a few students in my years that did this, and then went back a second time. They wished they could have erased the partying past, as the money they wasted...

Some of the students don't get pushed by parents and some just have no ambitions what so ever. They grow up thinking that getting by is all they need in life. Then at one point in time they wake up and realize that like is not about just getting by, so many of them realize this so late in life that they end up doing nothing much for themselves. That's why we need to educate our children, nieces, nephews, cousins that school is important and that attending college is a must do and not an option. I always hear people talk about how they wonder if their kids will attend college. My 6 yr old knows she has to go to college and when people ask her what will you do when you grow up she tells you I am going to go to college like my mom, so I can be smarter and wiser. It is up to us to change the trend, so kids/students can begin to care about their grades.

In college, I believe several things can be at the root of students not caring... 1. They are there because someone else wants/expects them to be there (they'd rather be doing something else.) 2. Lack of career direction. (Even if I don't understand WHEN I will ever use Algebra, if it's required for my major/career, then I just have to do it!) 3. Medical or emotional issues. 4. Outside forces -- $$, having to work, family, etc.

well i go 2 high school and there are about 5 people that actually care about the grade that they get. they are just going to school because they have to. i dont understand if you are going to a place or eight hours why not do somthing with all that time. i really dont have to bust my chops to get a high average but i do care about the grades that get in my classes.

They are trained very precisely and powerfully by the culture they are in to not care about anything but themselves.
They are a powerful lever for companies to get into their parents pocketbooks, and if a profit driven corporation (like mtv) has the choice between teaching excellence, or making a profit, they make the profit.

Some do not care about education- and will get the same piece of paper for graduation- they will probably not be able to get a scholarship for good marks -- D

In some instances, as long as you pass - grades don't matter. They matter when you are trying to go into post-grad or teachers college or law school etc.
