be sure that you have your fingers on asdf for your left hand, and jkl; for your right. then press the letter keys with the finger that is most comfortable. It's faster than you think to memorize where the keys are. Practice on IM, that's how i got fast. Then try looking at the screen while you type.

Chat rooms and talking to your friends online using some sort of instant messange. Its easier to learn to type faster when your typing your thots, instead of copying something or someone elses.
Trying creating a journal and writing in it everyday online.... There are many online journals out there. It doesnt have to be about anything specific. jsut write about your day and anything your thinking no matter how stupid. You will find that you will gradually pick up speed and accuracy. ^.^

You can try Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, it's supposed to be a kids game that will help improve your typing.
The best way is just practice. Copy something by typing it out. Practice practice practice.

I went in Yahoo and searched for free typing tests. Then I just kept doing then until my results got better and better.
You can also pick something, like an article from the newspaper, and practice typing it.

It sounds crazy but I improved my typing accuracy and speed by playing Typer Shark in Yahoo Games.
