Leopard geckos are some of the most interesting geckos. They have eyelids and can blink. They also clean their faces with their tongues. I have never, NEVER been bitten by one and if you get bit chances are you are handling them wrong. Like most reptiles they like to be held but not for long periods of time and they do need their space. The baby leopard geckos can be kinda spaztic and sometimes bite. Either get an adult that is already friendly or when you get the young one just let it be for a while till it gets used to the cage and your daughter. If you are looking for a reptile for her consider a Bearded Dragon, they are also very VERY good starter hardy friendly reptiles. Always wash your hands after handling them. Good luck!

I always suggest ball pythons for younger kids because they rarely bite and if you drop it they don't run fast.

Leopard geckos are easy to take care of. You buy calci-sand or any other reptile sand at your local pet shop. you want to make sure you buy a sand sifter because it is easy to clean up. Then they only need a heat lamp, no UVB because they are nocturnal. You will want to buy calcium dust for crickets so they get the calcium they need. You only dust every other feeding. A few crickets a day if you have only one. A small water bowl because even though they are desert reptiles they still drink water.

Leopard geckos can and do bite even when they are babies. I have been bitten by babies but not adults. Those guys can be mean though. and if your kid drops it from being bitten it will run a hide pretty quickly. So there is a problem there. Anything else just let me know.

Perfect, any reptile has the potential to bite but leopard geckos get tamed very easily and are very easy to maintain, I know people way younger than 11 that have had them and they did perfect. that should be a perfect gift. Geckos can be really great pets and anyone that gets bit by a leopard gecko either got one in a bad mood or did something to the gecko to aggetate it. some geckos can be agressive but leopard geckos are definetly not one of them. Aggressive geckos such as Tokay geckos should be avoided they are mean and their bite is very painful from what I have heard. Good Luck, They are sooo cool, and perfect as a first reptile.

GREAT! she will love it We have had ours for yrs never bites looks beautiful and yes they come out at night but usually waking up around 7 pm so that gives lots of play time before bead. Until she gets used to handling i would suggest always have her sit either on the floor or on a big bed with it so if dropped will be okay. They can loose the tail if dropped of badly frightened but will grow back soon. Dont use calci sand they lick it cause of the calcium in it and can get impacted get reg playsand from home depot of can tire and just put a little dish of calcium powder in tank they eat when needed also dut your crickets before feeding. Good luck have fun

I've had a leopard gecko for 4 years now, and I think they make great pets! Mine has never bit me or my husband, they don't have teeth! They love to be handled, but just be careful of the tail. Leopard geckos can lose their tails if they are pulled on. They do this as a defense mechanism, so if a predator grabs them by the tail, they can escape.
If you get one, the pet store should have a book you can buy on them. They may also have starter kits available! I think your son would really enjoy one! They are also very easy to care for!!!!

no. your leopard gecko would likely kill your anole, the two species stay in diverse factors of the worldwide (way diverse climates and habitats), and a 10 gallon tank rather holds one leopard gecko. the main reason is, that the leopard gecko is a barren area reptile, residing in pakistan and afghanistan, and the fairway anole is a TROPICAL reptile.

as long as you keep the tank clean, keep the geckos feed, check the temperature, and have hiding places for them inside the tank they should be fine. if your child decides to play with the geckos make sure he keeps an eye on it because they are quick and will hide under warm places (under televisions and refrigerators). make sure he washes his hand before and after handling the geckos (esp. after)

I personally wouldnt get him one as they only come out at night so he may not see it very often. They are also very fragile and can't really be pulled about. If it was my kid Id buy them a hamster or a rat or something.
