I am talking about drain tiles that are in farmers fields, not perimeter drains around a house or leading to a municipal sewer system.

I never knew of anyone making a map of tile drains. If there are any cleanouts( usually white plastic pipes with caps, sticking out of ground) , a plumber with a camera and a locater can trace your pipes. He then can use spray paint to mark the pipes location, depth, and direction of travel. Mind you, the cost for this procedure is about $300 an hour, but a small cost compared to spending hours, or days digging blindly. With this service, you know in advance what lies ahead. The reason the cost is so high, these cameras cost in the $3000=-$6000, and then you have the cost of the locater.

Drain tile is not code enforceable and therefore it isn't documented in most cases.. The only thing that you can do to map it is to fish a wire through the drain and then use tracking equipment to find the route
