I read most of the replies and they concern getting caught, not feeling guilt. You can feel guilt for cheating even if you and the person you cheated with are the only people who know. In this case I believe a lot of times that guilt does go away, especially if you get away with it. Cheating is just like most everything else, the more you do it the easier it gets.

The guilt of cheating can go away if the deeper reasons behind the cheating are dealt with. This may mean confessing. As long as you lie about it to ANYone the guilt will remain.

The guilt of cheating goes away and is replaced by regret.

Actually... it gets easier with each time you do it...

Sad, but true. The first time will be guilt like you wont believe it... but, each consecuative time, they start to rationalize it and make better excuses on why its happening.

Then, they dont even think about it, just are extra cautious on how not to get caught.

And, when they "do" get caught, its ALWAYS going to be the "other partners" fault!!! (Always the common cop-out).

The guilt is always there for a time, until there are too many times, then its replaced by other emotions...(fear of getting caught, because they dont want a divorce, because they are happy in thier present situation).

I wish you well..

For as long as you have truly accepted that what you did was a terrible mistake and you are sorry for it. Ask God for forgiveness. This will lighten your load. Learn from this and never repeat it. Leave the past and work for the future! It will go away in time.

Long story short, we have both cheated, yes it goes away, but we had to work our butts off to get back to where we needed to be

If you love your spouse and were just seeking a good time, it will rear its ugly head from time to time. I will tell you this though. The short-lived thrill you get from cheating is certainly not worth the bottomless pit of pain you will cause your spouse, your children and yourself if the affair leads to a divorce.
Trust me.

I think he may have been saying that the more you cheat the more it eats away your soul, until you have no conscience left to feel guilty.
