Everyone gets caught up in the materialistic view of Christmas. For some reason it doesn't seem "normal" if you're not out shopping for presents that others don't really need. Why not shop for gloves or blankets for the homeless, take some food to the local animal shelter, donate money to a local school to buy shoes for some child who needs them. Thats the kind of present I would like to get. One I can't see but others will.

Interesting question. What are the roots of Christmas, i.e why do you put up a tree in your house, why the wreath on the door? Christmas(along with most religious holidays) is rooted in pagan culture. The evergreen tree was a symbol that life will once again come back to the earth. This is why you bring a tree into your house and you put a wreath on your door, as a reminder that while the earth may be in a state of death, life will come again to the earth, ie spring. The traditon was to leave the wreath up until the first day of spring. Its not a shocker that december 25th was chosen as christmas, eventhough Jesus wasn't born on december 25th. It was chosen because the church was on their be killed or converted crusade against the pagans. The church decided it was easier to convert pagans by putting a new holiday around the same time as a pagan holiday. December 21-22 winter solstice pagans worship the sun. December 25 christians worship the son.

The true meaning of Christmas is getting together with family and friends and showing peace and goodwill toward others. Where do get the idea that every single person on the planet has forgotten that? Christmas to most people is actually not religious, never has been and never will be, so it is very arrogant to assume that if someone doesn't celebrate the religious aspect that they are not allowed to have anything to do with it.

The true meaning of Christmas,

Once, long ago, when the harvest was done, and the days got shorter and colder. When the crops had been stored for the year. Folks decided to celebrate the bountiful harvest by having several feast days. These days were complete with huge buffets of cooked veggies, bar b qued pigs and cows and chicken, plum pudding , and breads and cakes of all kinds. The yule log burned and people danced and sang. They exchanged gifts. It was a celebration of the harvest. This was the original Christmas. Did you mean this one?

That is a wonderful question! Every year I see decorations earlier and earlier, and it makes me sick! I would love it to be like it was in the olden days, where you made the presents by hand and went to church on christmas eve, and went around singing carols throughout the neighborhood. I think I should have been born back in the 1800's sometimes, lol.

i think we all forget the meaning of Christmas because people are getting more and more wrapped up in themselves and getting gifts and presents and all the stores and company's make it easier and easier to forget what Christmas truly means so they can make money.

Because of the rush of life... but I realize that if we truely want to make time for the true meaning of Christmas..
Then why do we all wait till the last minute to buy gifts... we have twelve months and we wait till the last two.. then wonder why it went so fast!

If we did them earlier... then we could spend the last two months Focusing on Jesus and sharing with our family.
