I'm not so concerned with the skiing, but I want to go somewhere where there's a lot of snow and I would like to stay in a lodge/resort like you see on tv...a log one with fireplaces in the rooms and a balcony with a snowy view.

Zermatt in Switzerland is awesome. Motorized traffic is banned from the village so the atmosphere is great, and you have the Matterhorn looming above it all. And the skiing is also superb, of course... I stayed in a log cabin chalet there fireplace, sauna, view up the valley, etc. Go!

Snowshoe in West Virginia looks pretty cool. Never been there in the winter, but was there in the summer on a trip to Cass Scenic Railroad. I know there are places you can rent near Snowshoe too, log cabins and stuff.
