I'm living in Texas have to go back to Sacramento to pick up my furniture, it's in storage right now, it's only one room, trying to figure out the cheapest plan to make this happen. Renting a small u-haul, with gas, hotel, small meals, can become costly. Any suggestions?

+ Ryder rental is the best way. If you can pick up another persons stuff and drop it off on the way you might be able to cut your expenses in half. If you did it with three you might even be able to make some money. Put an add in the paper and see if anyone is willing. Also they might be doing the same thing so they might bring the stuff for you for a % of the cost to get their stuff moved(truck, fuel, etc.). It would be worth asking, A note on the local college or university post board might just get you a call you would want to hear. Ya Never Know.

I agree with favrd1^^
If you don't own much then it's a lot cheaper because it will al least cost you 1,000.00 to move from city to city with one bedroom stuff.

rent a van with unlimited miles, get a tent and stay in campgrounds on your way back. buy food at local grocery stores...otherwise, i think it would be cheaper to sell it and forget about it.

THE ONLY THING CHEEPER IS TO SLEEP IN YOUR CAR INSTEAD OF A HOTEL. IF YOU RENT A VAN INSTEAD YOU CAN SLEEP IN IT AND THEN LOAD UP THE NEXT MORNING AND GO BACK.

Honestly, you may be better off just selling it all and buying new.
