I have a serious problem with my internet connection. First I have a broadband modem connected to a switch/hub, from the switch/hub I have 10 different computer connected. Everything has worked fine for over a year, but a few days ago my connection is just given me limited connections on all my computers. I called my broadband/ISP and they told me that I have a heavy traffic of error signals from either my modem to the outside world or from my switch to the modem. I found out that one of my computer are the responsible for the error traffic. If I disconnect that computer from the switch/hub everything works fine again and other 9 nine computers have internet access again. I have no idea of why one have this error traffic.
I have reinstalled windows xp and tried to just use the modem and the crazy computer, but after a reinstall of windows did not solve the problem. I have run Antivirus scan without finding any virus. I haven't any IRQ confilcts. In device manager there is no confilcts

using a hub on a network creates a single collision domain, this means that when one computer transmitts a signal, all of the computers on your network will listen, this creates massive traffic. but I dont think that is the problem, I desgined, installed and managed a network with 11 computers and one printer using a switch and never had that problem. Replace the network card, if you reinstalled the OS and still does it, then you have a hardware problem, also reconfigure your router's dhcp settings or reset the whole configuration on the router.

As others said, it could be a bad network card or a bad port on th switch. Try hooking the bad computer up to a different port on the switch (reuse one that you know works for a different computer). If you still have the problem, you have at least isolated the issue to the network card (or something else in the PC).

You can also try restarting Windows in safe mode without network support. If you still have a problem with the PC, it's almost certainly a hardware issue with the network card.

Well apparently you troubleshooted the issue already. You found the guilty PC. Chances are that the wireless or wired card might be too old or in need of new drivers. So I will check that first. Also keep in mind that if you have some hardware failure or some hardware that are too old that particular PC will slow down the rest of the network.
If you are a PC Technician like me you know that despite everybody is telling around the hardware especially memory ressource fast processor and a great wired or wireless card is what is critical in getting the max of what your IP allows you as speed.

I would have tried all the re-install methods as well. Sounds like a hardware issue. I would first replace the ethernet card in your bad machine and then look at the switch...you might have a bad port.

you can try to refresh every ip address on the computer by doing this: Start>Run>ipconfig/release it let go of all ip #s now to refresh Start>Run>ipconfig/renew

try having the same workgroup with the pc on the Vista. in case your Vista has a workgroup "residing house", replace your XP pc's workgroup into "residing house". attempt to apply the same gateway for both pcs.

maybe the network card in that one machine has gone bad ....... try putting in a network card from a different machine .... if it works you know that one is bad
