I have a huge final on the horror story "The Pit and the Pendulum" by Edgar Allen Poe. I've read the story, but I cant imagine any questions that will be on the test. Our teacher did hint that we should understand the "deeper meaning" in the context of the story. Has anyone took a test on this before? What were some of the questions? THANKS.

First: The book is very difficult to understand. So if after reading it you don't understand it, rent the movie.

Second: If after renting the movie you still don't understand it read Spark notes. they are very helpful.

Third: If you still don't know what the moral of the story is, pray the test is multiple choice

I haven't had a test on that short story. All I can suggest is that you read it a few times until you are quite familiar with the story, and then answer the questions as best you can. I'm sure you'll do fine.

...I can't even think of what questions might be on there, either! Maybe do a small amount of research into the Spanish Inquisition?
