it depends on what is causing the runny nose. Is it allergies ro infection.
If it is infection, is it coming out clear or colored.
Does the child have a fever? Is the child teething?
All of these are considerations in selecting whether to medicate or not. When in doubt......don't medicate

As long as the drainage is clear, he is probably fine. (watch for yellow or greenish fluid/yucky stuff).
You can buy saline nasal drops at the pharmacy and gently drip (not spray) 3-5 drops in each nostril. (he probably won't like it!) Then, use the bulb syringe to suction out the *stuff*. Try to be gentle.... imagine if that was your nose! Until he can learn to blow his nose, this is how you can help him breathe a little easier.

They have a new Tylenol Cold/Cough or just Cold in Infant drops. You can use that w/o a prescription and give the same dose you give them of regular Tylenol. Just make sure you get the INFANT DROPS and not children's.

He may have a runny nose because he is teething. I would contact your doc and ask if you can give him some benedryl and how much which is what my doctor prescribed for a running nose or they can recommend something else.

Infant Tylenol and cold. But are you sure it's not more serious? It could just be from teething, or it could be as bad as RSV. If he is running a fever, or you notice any wheezing, you should take him to see his Dr. It's cold and flu season, you never know what he could have!

-Use a suction bulb every once in awhile to clear his nose
-Put a thin layer of vaseline on his upper lip to keep his skin from getting chapped or irritated
-If his snot is any color other than clear and he becomes febril, call his doctor
-Make sure to look for signs of teething such as drooling, fever, and fussiness

If it's not bothering him, leave him alone. It will go away on its own, and there's no reason to give him medicine unless he's miserable or having trouble sleeping.
