If you like strategy games, Settlers of Catan, is nice one that has enough luck that no one is every completely out of the game. Pictionary is another fun game. If you like card games, Phase 10, and Set are fun an easy to learn. We play all of these games with my family age ranges 9 (daughter) to 68 (mom).
If you wanna try something really different get an Uno deck or regular card deck and play something called Bartok (aka a bunch of other names too). The game is only limited by your creativity.
If you have a bunch of people (say 8 or more) you might want to try the game Werewolf or Mafia.
Goog ...er Yahoo search Bartok the Game, or Werewolf/Mafia game and you will find a whole bunch of sites and variations. You will also find links to a variety of similar games - self-modifying games.

Try a game called 'Ticket to Ride' - it won board game of the year a few years ago. It is an excellent strategic game, but one which can be played quickly and is very easy to learn. There are 3 versions of it - the European one is probably a good starting point.

Scattegories and Apples to Apples are both great recommendations! Sequence is a decent game if you want something for like 3-6 players. Compatibility is another great group game, but it's tough to find. You might be able to get it on ebay or Amazon.

A strong recommendation here for Apples to Apples. It's a great card-based game that is fun to play and very easy to pick up. Should be available at most major department store type retailers.

As one person said Risk, as anybody who says they do not want to rule the world is fibbing through their eye teeth. You can now get mission cards which speeds the game up and with six people playing it might not take too long.
Also is the evergreen "Mouse Trap" a bugger to set up but a joy to play and flushing the toilet to see which way the ball goes is excellent.

Pictionary can be fun. It is basically along the lines of charades except that you have to draw it instead of enact it, it can be very funny, if everyone has a sense of humor about it...yes, Balderdash is alot of fun and the classics you named...enjoy your holiday!

How many relatives have you got? Deal or No Deal has a board game out, so you could try that. You aren't playing for real money, so that might be a bit of a let down, but give it a go.

It's not a board game, but dominoes are pretty fun, especially the large sets (12 dots). The best family domino games are chicken foot and mexican train. It's very addictive. The game instructions are easy and usually come with the domino set.

as long as you may translate the guidelines, how about TransAmerica? the idea and the guidelines are extremely basic, so in effortless words an initial translation is necessary. really, the gamers race to connect their assigned cities by skill of railroad traces. triumphing in many cases relies upon upon who has the perfect frame of mind to play off the different gamers' railroads to connect their personal traces. i'd propose Settlers of Catan yet some verbal interplay is critical to commerce with different gamers. nevertheless, in case you may coach your household or boyfriends some words (one sheep, 2 corn, and so on.) you may swing it. Quirkle. No language skills necessary in any respect. that is a deceptively basic tile activity of matching shades and shapes, so your sister may be able to play it. it truly is rather like Uno (structure/colour matching) meets connect 4 (ending up a series of tiles) meets Scrabble (by means of skill to position a tile that concurrently connects a row and a column). you artwork adverse to at least one yet another to make rows and/or columns of tiles that adventure in structure or colour yet do no longer repeat. there is sufficient frame of mind in touch to maintain the adults in touch. as well, it truly is rather. Dominoes. No verbal interactions necessary, and far of rule adjustments to maintain it exciting. Backgammon. once the guidelines are translated, you're sturdy. merely organic frame of mind. the in effortless words disadvantage is that that is a 2-participant activity. you should purchase some forums, in spite of the undeniable fact that, and characteristic a adventure.
