They need an area suitable to NHL standards. They have the MTS Centre, but it only seats 15,000 - I'm not sure they would stay financially viable. Ticket sales is a huge part of the NHL's income. The fact that Canadian teams taking in Canadian money while paying expenses in American money is a huge factor (while the dollar isn't bad anymore, its still an issue).

I'm not sure how the corporate sponsorship would be in Winnipeg, but that would have to be pretty well supported for it to stay.

To build a new arena - that will cost the owners money. Canadian government doesn't fund these facilities like they do in the states.

With all that being said, I think Winnipeg would do much better financially and in fan support than several of the current teams in the US.

they needed a new arena and the government in Canada doesn't help teams out like they do in the U.S you just look at the Montreal Canadiens they actually pay a little over $20 million a year on taxes if are government will help out then we would have 10 teams in the NHL. but in the U.S its all about sports and money, are athletes need to come up with there money to do anything. look at the Coyotes they suck and are worst of a team then what the Jets were and the Jets had a bigger attendance then in Phoenix. they will have a team again in the next 10 to 15 years for sure.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!1

Lack of money and a strong ownership group were the main reasons it left. Also, Mr. Bettman wanted to put another team in a nice warm sunny place to try to "grow" the game. I guess he didn't think it through being they've lost something like 10 times more money in the 10 or 11 seasons in Phoenix than they ever did while they were in Winnipeg.

BRING BACK THE JETS.

They dont have a team for several reasons, because they couldnt afford it basically. The Winnipeg Arena was ancient. And they could not get government approval to fund a new arena. However several years later they spent millions on a new arena for the Manitoba Moose, so go figure.

As well, the team was never really successfull, and lacked fan support....that is until it was too late.

They couldn't afford one under the old CBA is the biggest reason. With the new Collective Bargining Agreement they may be able to, but they would need to get one to relocate.
