Never. Babies cry to communicate. As parents, it is our job to respond.

We started our kids (4) around 4-6 months. At first it was just a few minutes, maybe five and then we would check on them, not pick them up, but talk in soothing tones to them to calm them down. Walk out and let them cry for a few more minutes - each time repeating the steps. As long as you know they are clean and dry and warm and well fed, I would keep going until they fall asleep. They have to learn that you are not "gone" when you are in the other room. It is a difficult couple of nights, but within a week, you will find your baby is falling asleep more easily and with less stress to you. Ultimately you have two choices . . .

Be the parent who rocks each child to sleep until they are 16, or
Be the parent who knows their child will sleep when laid down, by you or a grandparent, or sitter.

Good Luck!

I did it very gradually from very early on. The first few weeks i would check them the minute i heard them cry, but then after about 2-3 months old i would let them cry for a few minutes like when i put them to bed, before i would rush back in and check on them. As long as you know the baby is clean, dry, fed, a few minutes for a baby who is a few months old won't hurt. Good luck!

My daugther was 9 months when we used the CIO method for getting her to sleep through the night. It worked like a charm, and we've had blissful nights of sleep ever since. She's now 13 months old.

6 months. Babies are unable to self-soothe before then so "crying it out" would be pointless.

About 5 months old. But I started at two minutes then would double it. So I would go 2,4,8 and if they got crying for 8 minutes they I would get them.

4-6 months. Did it gradually though. 5 min for a couple days, 10 min, etc. Gets easier with each child :)

I dont let my baby cry it out. He is almost 2 now.
Just something I am not comfortable doing. He's a baby. If he cries he needs something. My job as his mom is to calm and comfort him.
