You are DEFINITELY not too old. Although I started gymnastics when I was 7, my cheerleading coach didn't start tumbling until she was 20. Never think you are too old for something you're willing to work for. Right now, I'm coaching a Cheer Tumble class with 17 year olds in it. Its never too late, and in fact, you're doing it at a pretty good time. Go find a good gymnastics facility in your area, and get involved. I'll tell you right off the bat though. You may get frusterated because you may not get to start working on back handsprings right away. Gymnastics and tumbling are foundation sports, meaning that you need to have a good foundation to build the rest of your tricks onto. I've had many girls come in thinking that they're ready to do this stuff, and they need to get a really good round-off before they're ready to do any back handspring work. Don't get frusterated. Just work on whatever the coach has you do, and you'll get to the stuff you want to do. Hope everything goes well! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at tumbling_brat_1_06@yahoo.com

Wow we are in the same situation! I am 14 also and i wanted to begin learning how to tumble and i really want to be able to do my backhandspring. Your not too old! This is what i did: i joined a local gymnastics place and i went into a cheer/tumble class where it complety focuses on tumbling for cheerleading. There are 2 other 14 year olds in the class and some girls a few years younger. Just try to join a place if you already havent and get into a tumble class, since you dont want to learn bars and beam (just floor work). Good luck and you will eventually get that backhandspring down, i cant wait till i can do mine! I also tried a back tuck but it was really scary lol but just get flexible and trust yourself and give it all you have and you will be able to do it by college.

hey ...
well i cheer for an all star team && no you are deff. not to old to get ur back handspring im 15 & jsut got mine i had been working on it for about 2 years! on && off due to injuries, but girl good for you go for it.. if u work hard & teake ur tumbling class seriously than you can deff get it! i also recomend private classes because one on one lessons can also really make a differnt! and if it doesnt come to you as quick as you want it remember that a back handsping is one of teh hardest tricks to get!

hope you go for it
