Okay, she is two and a half, and we just found out like, 3 days ago that her parents decided to get her a puppy after I already bought her gifts.

As far as responsibility goes, she does know how to clean up after her grandma's little dog. Her birthday is in March, which I thought would be a better time to get it. She actually told Santa that she wanted "a little black puppy" for Christmas. I don't know, I don't agree with a lot of things her parents do, but it's the in-laws, so i just sort of keep my mouth shut.

Why is a toddler getting a dog? They don't have the responsibility and maturity to take care of a pet. Can they feed it, walk it, train it? The poor dog will probably be out in the cold within a few months. I feel sorry for all the dogs that are purchased at Christmas for babies.
As to your other question. Yes, get the toys, she won't care enough about the dog to forget the other gifts.

depends on the relationship you have with the kid or the kids parents. if you cant decide jus get her something small. not too expensive. once she has the dog she wont even know that she had other presents.
