is a ethernet port the same as a lan port? I have been given a wireless router - does it have to go in one of my computers? has anyone else done this? I know I should have got them to install it all but I thought I would be able to do it. Any suggestions will be gratefully received

Its pretty straightforward. I did this myself.

If you stick the cd in it actually gives you a pretty good demo of how and what to connect as you go along (with graphics)

But basically you do not need to use the wireless functionality of your wireless router.

Connect it to your phone line using the grey cable and the yellow cable goes into your ethernet port in your pc. The yellow cable will only fit in the correct place in your pc. If it does not fit anywhere then you have no ethernet port fitted (but most newish pc's will).

If not you can connect via one of your usb inputs using one of these :

This site is also a good resourse if you get stuck. The section
on the router setup and port forwarding is usefull as this will increase your download speeds especially if you use bittorrent

or you can email me and we can go through it in more detail.

if you have a wireless router no it means no wires i pressume you live in the uk if your talking about sky the yellow ethernet cable is not needed or the blue usb cable the whole idea of a wireless router is no wires have you got an attachment that goes in the back of your computer you need this to be wireless acctivated i dont have sky broadband but i do have sky tv you need the disk it came with load the disk and follow the instructions and it should tell you at the end to press enter to allow the computer to detect the router and the sky broadband we have wireless laptops and this is how we installed the wireless attachment and router you could get a hub that makes you go wireless and is less hassle good luck

be sure each element plugged in to the telephone has its very own clear out. i think of Sky field in basic terms must be plugged in each so commonly and after a million 365 days you could unplug it thoroughly in case you %. i could additionally propose getting sky to return out and verify, they are people who set it up, would be a concern with the settings on the field
