I would like some advice on starting a staffing agency, not the generic info on starting a business in general. What are some of the hurdles that one will have to jump over in the staffing agency world. Thanks.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Recruiter's Almanac of Scripts, Rebuttals and Closes by Bill Radin
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Your Own Staffing Service by Krista Thoren Turner

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I was Assistant Branch Manager for a staffing agency for 5 years. It can be very, very stressful. First of all, you have to convince companies and businesses to use your service over your compettion. Second, you have to find the right people to fit the job descriptions when you do get a job order from the company. Third, you have to worry about people actually showing up to work when they are needed and say the will be there. I used to get phone calls at home at night and on the weekend because an employee was a "no show". People will come to you begging for work and telling you how badly they need and want to work and say they will work anywhere. Then, when you offer them something they turn it down because they don't want to work 3rd shift or for some other reason.

Do your research. Check out your competition and think about if your area can support more staffing agencies.

I wish you the best of luck.

If you are serious about staring up a staffing/recruiting agency yo need to consider how you manage the process from end to end.

There are job orders, client contacts, candidate profiles, job ads - all of these things quickly overwhelm you if you are not organised and will ultimately lose you business or placement as time progresses. This is why it is important to get the correct recruitment management software in place from the start. You will find it is inexpensive and will save so much time in the long run - JobAdder has a free trial, try it out, find your feet and see how you go. https://jobadder.com

1. you need to know a lot of companies' decision makers

2. you need to have the skills necessary to convince those decision makers to use your service

3. you need to attract good resources to fill those orders in order to promote a good reputation for your agency.
