they should have wide pelvises to facilitate ease in childbirth, but the accumulation of attractively cantilevered butt flab is (like large breasts) an adornment, an example of secondary sexual dimorphism designed or evolved (take your pick) to attract potential mates, just like the big red sac under a Frigate Bird's beak.

Bunch of tests indicate that the single biggest attractant for males is a large differential between the size of a woman's waist and the size of her hips.

Is for me. Dunno why. But it's also the general consensus of the people that have blown their lives researching this stuff. Based on what I've read, anyway. And everybody knows slim-hipped women that have delivered healthy babies, so that's the only explanation that makes much sense.
