If I tell you my mother's name is Mary, and my mother comes up to you and tells you her name is Mary, which answer is truer?
Both answers are equally true, but the validity (and therefore, the individual proof) needed to convince you had to come from the first (primary) party. Its not that a third party cannot tell the truth, it is that they are less likely to be believed than the person who is the first party.
