Make sure that each doctor who gives you advice is fully aware of your condition with Crohn's Disease. Ask each why he/she recommends the method they do and then tell them what the other doctor has said and ask why they are giving conflicting advice. Ask for another opinion.

During birth there is great pressure on the intestine and when they tell you to 'push' it is the same sensation as when you go to the toilet and are constipated. It is possible that the doctor who advises the section is aware of the problems that Crohn's gives to the bowel and is worried about the birth causing damage.

My daughter (who does not suffer from Crohn's) has two lovely children, one born naturally, the other by section and she has no preference.

I too suffer from a condition, that of Ulcerative Colitis and if you are in England you can contact NACC (National Association of Colitis and Crohn's Disease Sufferers) who should be able to help.

Their address is

NACC
4 Beaumont House
Sutton Road
St Albans
AL1 5HH

If you would like to talk to someone who has personal experience of Colitis or Crohn’s Disease, then you can call the NACC-in-Contact Support Line which is open from 6.30 – 9.00 pm on Mondays to Fridays. The number for this service is 0845-1303344.

If you are in another country ask your doctor, the one who treats your Crohn's, if there is a similar organisation you can talk to.

Good luck with the birth. If it's a boy you could call him 'Richard' after me! (hahaha)

one of my best friends has severe crohnes and is pregnant. I think the choice is up to you at the end of the day and how bad your crohnes is. I will say one thing, after a c-section you get terible wind and i had a bad tum too which was painful for me let alone for you however it can put pressure on you having a normal birth.
If you are worried about a c-section, dont be. I had one last november, was up and walking the same night and left hospital 48 hours later (discharged myself as i felt fine) and was able to do housework. Crohns is painful ive been told so im sure you could cope with the pain although you have so many painkillers that you dont really feel much.
whatever you choosei wish you luck, at the end of the day you know whats best for your body.

First! Did they remove part of your bowels?
That's sad.
It's a parasitic infection often brought on by stress. It can be gotten rid of by going the natural route.
Have your baby the natural way.
It's a natural function of the body. Pardon my analogy but it's like going to the bathroom. You have to go and your not going to stop it however if you tense up and fight it it's going to hurt like hell.
Find a hypnobirthing class in your area. Call any hypnotist or contact the NGH (National Guild of Hypnotists) and take the course. They will give you a name of a hypnobirthing instructor in your area. The price is not that much and you will learn how to relax and allow your body to follow it's natural course. Of course they'll be some discomfort however when you see your child born free of drugs and reacting immediately you will know it was worth it. Even better will be to have your baby with a midwife in attendance and even better is to have the child at home.
All the best to you.
You didn't put the reasons why the doctor thought you should have a C-section. If I had crohns the last thing I would want is to have my muscles cut in my abdomen.

I would try to have a normal birth first...although, I dont really know about your disease and the operation. I would read up on it, and then go in again and ask.

did they remove some or all of your large intestine in the operation?

the docs are unsure because they probably dont come across this very often, as to speak to a specialist and dont make any decesions until you are condident that u are doing the right thing

take care

if you can go for the normal birth. you will recover faster from that then from a c-section.
