I just answered a question f/ a father who was blaming mothers for kids not having manners today. Why isn't he to blame as well?

My ex feels that he can't discipline our boys b/c they are "friends." And he only has them on the weekends, doesn't want to spend that time yelling. I spend all week fixing his lack of discipline.

To BLKengine. Child support is not only taken f/ fathers, it also taken f/ mothers, who don't have day to day custody. And the reason for these "mechanisms" is for fathers like my ex who is behind over $5000!! And as for the other, my ex came into my house w/o permission, took our 1 yr old, and when I tried to stop him, he went to the cops and I spent a night in jail b/c he lied and said I scratched him. So it works both ways!!!!!!!!!! My question is meant to ask about childrens place in society, determined by the way a mother raises them.

Dad's fault.
I'm in that situation now. My wife has two kids from a previous marriage and this guy has no balls. Kids do whatever they want, never get punished and he buys them whatever they want. Now, one is in juvenile detention (suspended from school) and the other went to a mental hospital and is now in a disciplinary school. Their mother teaches, disciplines and loves but without their father's support its all in vain.

Why does society blame the fathers? Why is the child support system setup so that the man has no mechanism to protect him from being taken advantage of by his kids' mother abusing the system, while that mother has anywhere where from 5 to 7 mechanisms on her side? Why is it that a woman can hit a man, call the police, tell them that he started it when he really did not touch her at all, and the man goes to jail? Oh, so many questions, I am on a roll (rolling my eyes).

Fathers are just as much to blame as the mother if not more so. They should work as a team. I have heard to many times after a divorce how the parents play the kids against the other parent.

That is part of the problem today, to many parents want to be their kids FRIEND instead of being a PARENT. They don't want their kids to be mad at them or hurt their feelings.

My attitude is YOU are the PARENT NOT a FRIEND.

There have been so many studies where teens have been asked, "What would you want the most from your parents?" Most teens answers were that they wanted MORE DISCIPLINE from the parents.

Funny you asked this question...I just saw a special on ABC's Primetime, I believed it aired on Dec 4th....but there were hidden cameras that showed the different reactions that people had in a restaurant where these kids were running amok while patrons were trying to enjoy their meals. It addressed the different reactions a father received while watching the kids as opposed to the reaction the mother received...very interesting check out this link. I believe there is a clip of the show.

American tradition wants to hold the woman responsible for the kids. They were more lenient on the father who was busy on a cell phone..

"traditional values:" it's always the woman's fault.
