Venus. Magellan was designed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the principle investigator (top scientist) was Dr. Charles Elachi, who also worked on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), and contributed to the radar on the Cassini probe to Saturn.

By the way, Elachi was promoted to Director of JPL in 1996, succeeding Dr. Edward Stone. Like Elachi, Stone was the principle investigator for the Voyager probes in the 70's and 80's. No wonder JPL does good science - they use top scientists, with excellent management skills to run the place, vs. most other government bureaucracies that just promote whomever is politically correct.

From the JPL Web Site:
Magellan to Venus Magellan to Venus
Launch: May 4, 1989
This orbiter used imaging radar to map 99 percent of the surface of Venus over four years. After concluding its radar mapping, Magellan made global maps of Venus's gravity field. Flight controllers also tested a new maneuvering technique called aerobraking, which uses a planet's atmosphere to slow or steer a spacecraft.
