It was the first time that a small faction of the controlling power of the world fought for their freedom and was successful. They acknowledged that their God-given freedom was bound to get loose and when that happened, it could create a force that could not be contended with by any major power. It caused the French Revolution as well.

It is more significant than US independence from Britain, that was bound to happen at some point, more significant is the development of modern democracy, the declaration of independence and subsequent constituition form the basis of pretty much what most of the world feels is how countries should be run.

There would not be a United States of America without the American Revolutionary War. And *gulp* we would all be....BRITISH!!!!

It was the fight for freedom from British rule.

Freedom is the whole premise that the US is built around. Our national anthem talks about and heralds that freedom. Each and every person here is thankful to the soldiers that fought in that war. Without them, who knows where we'd be.
