Truth is that not every clutch kit you buy comes with a release bearing. Some Main dealer kits think of the release as part of the gearbox and not the engine. Anyway, i take it you have had a clutch fitted and now you've got a whine. That may be because it was incorrectly fitted or the box is low on oil, maybe because if Front wheel drive, most require the drive shafts to be removed before you can drop the gearbox and oil leakage takes place. If you had it done by a reputable dealer/person take it back. Its definetely not right....

It all depends on what items were supplied with the kit.
A thrust bearing (if the clutch is set right) ONLY operates when you press down the clutch. If you get a whining sound and your foot is NOT on the clutch pedal, then I think you can rule out the thrust bearing. Try to think what is happening when you get the whine. EG what gear? what speed? Are you slowing down or speeding
up, or crousing?? In 1 gear or any gears. Is it the engine . Does it stop when you switch off the engine and run in nuetral It's easy to eliminate the Thrust bearing

There is no "thrust" bearing in the clutch system. That would be in the engine on a main journal of the crankshaft (and camshaft).

There are two bearing/bushings which should be replaced when installing a new clutch. That would be the release bearing and the pilot bearing. The pilot bearing is overlooked a lot because it can be difficult to swap out. They are sometimes bearings, and sometimes bushings. Those can also be damaged when installing the gearbox and cause a noise. Usual causrs of noise are the release (sometimes called throwout bearings). I would take it back to the shop that did the job and have them fix it. The noise shouldn't be there.

The clutch release bearing is normally replaced at the same time as the clutch as it would be a false economy not to. Release bearings very rarely come in a clutch kit to the trade, so they are sometimes overlooked if the job is needed done in a hurry.

On old type of clutches they should always fit a COMPLETE kit which includes the bearing, should not use copper ease but clutch grease.
newer clutches are a different ball game, dual mass, concentric etc+ expensive. many different opinions with some offering options to do away with.
if you treat the vehicle properly, load etc clutches last a very long time over 100000 mls, don't buy re-con or re-manufactured. Stick to LUK, Valeo etc.
you may have a wheel bearing problem which is easy to find and cure.

Yes when you buy a clutch kit you get the thrust race a pressure plate and centre plate which is the whole clutch that you will need , do check that the flywheel is not to badly scored , a few fine lines will not hurt if you do not and the flywheel is badly damaged it will shorten the life of your new clutch considerable

The clutch thrust or release bearing only operates when the pedal is pushed down, if your bearing was faulty it would only make a noise when you were stationary, when you release the pedal it is disengaged. If the sound gets higher pitched with speed or when you are coasting downhill with no throttle your differential is probably worn, a change of diff and gearbox oil would probably help.

normaly yes the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing should all be replaced at the same time. its a big job might as well put those parts in while the tranny is out besides if your clutch is wore out more than likely the bearing is too

It should get replayed anytime a clutch gets renewed, you should check the oil level in the gear box as it could be dry causing a whine.

Yes it should be replaced, unless you told the garage to fit a clutch plate only, Check the gearbox for oil as the oil can spill out when the gearbox is removed, and it may not have been refilled by the garage
