This book is based on The Greatest Gift by Philip Van Doren Stern.
The movie was nominated for 5 Oscars but lost them all to a movie called The Best Years of Our Lives, which had outstanding box office success in 1946. This was especially due to the end of World War Two, and the movie being based on returning service mens' lives.

I always thought it was just a self-published Christmas "card" written by that Van Doren writer (the one who's son was in the game show scandal). I think it was "The Greatest Gift" or the "Best Gift"...something like that.
