It`s taken so long to find the book and I know that she would never think of selling, no matter what cash value was placed on it.Her great grand-father wrote it in the trenches at Ypres a long time ago.

You should write something in it to make it extra special to her.

To my one and only love,

You are the one who make it worth my time to get out bed every morning and to strive to do my best in life, just to have you close to my side is all that I can ask for and all that I ever wanted.

If it's something she's been looking for for a long time, I doubt she'll be looking to re-sell it if it becomes "worth something," so I say go for it. A little personalized inscription on the flyleaf could be an endearing touch.

If you're not sure, though, maybe get some nice-looking stationery that's the same size page as the pages in the book, and insert it somewhere random in the book, somewhere where she might come across it by accident when she reads it. I think it will make her smile.

Good job on finding the book! It sounds like it's going to be a wonderful present for her. Good luck!

Nothing, if there ever comes a time when you find out that the book becomes a collectors item or really rare, it won't be worth anything because you wrote in it. No books should have writing inside them by people other than the author. Stephen King's first book in the Gunfighter series, first edition, first printing in hardcover is selling today for over $325.00 and he is still alive. So, don't put anything in the book such as writing, you never know when it will become a very worthy(monetarily)book.

To Your wife with love after years of searching you have dedicated the book to the people that never came back from World War 1.
I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas

Write:

I've found it! I hope this book will make your day, sweetie. Happy reading, and I love you so much, I hope me finding this will show it. Merry Christmas.
Love,
*your name*
(year)

And P.S. for those above me, is the value really more important then her remembering who cared about her enough to find it. Perhaps she has personal reasons for hunting down the book for so long, I doubt she will sell it. You never know, it could be passed down in the family, and the message will add a magical quality to future generations. It will be like a message in a yearbook, forever treasured.

Have a blessed holiday season.

I agree with Miss Darcy that writing something will be very special. As for what to write just have a think write a few things down that pop in to your head. Have a great Christmas.

Roses are red
Violets are blueish
We are celebrating Christmas
Because we aren't Jewish.

Kidding.
A unique Book mark that you can write on and place in the book.. Write on the fly and the book value goes down. Write on a book marker and she will see it every time she opens a book.

It should be something personal from you, not anything I or others come up with.

It sounds like a great present - hope you both have a very happy Christmas and new year

You could tell her how much finding the book for her means to you and how it's an honour to her grandad's memory. It has to be personal but I know what you mean, once you've written in it there's no going back!

I think the others are right, put a small piece of note paper inside and write something romantic.
