Its a part of life and its sad, if they would they probally would . . .sorry, I am a vegetarian . . .

Either:
1. because the ones that we are commonly around like cats, dogs, lizards, snakes, goldfish, cows, horses etc... are not predatory animals or are too small to eat us.
2. we have become intelligent enough to not be around lions, anacondas, hyenas, sharks etc... that would love us as a snack.
It is also a fact that lobsters & crabs are scavengers, & would eat us if they could. So go get some butter, for the sake of mankind!

There are a lot of animals who will gladly chow down on human, including the cougar, the polar bear, the shark, the maggot... They just don't have as much opportunity now as they did in the good ol' days when we were swinging through the jungles with the rest of our monkey relatives.

They do try to eat us all the time. Ever hear of man eating tigers, lions, alligators etc?
