Alot of people will tell you it is not wise to rent a car in Vegas because you can walk or take the tram everywhere, but I completly disagree. First of all, car rentals are so cheap that renting a car for 3 or 4 days ends up costing as much as 3 or 4 cabs rides do anyway. Also, there is so much to explore outside the strip , likehoover dam, that having a car is an important part of the trip. Several times I have gone to vegas , parked my car in the resort lot, and only used it once or twice. But still for the low price i paid for the car, it still seemed worth.

You can walk to anywhere in Las Vegas, but will need a car for Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. There are air tours (in small 6-seater planes) from an airport near Hoover Dam that go through the Grand Canyon. The views are magnificent!

Yes a car is a good idea for Hoover Dam but just get it for one day...and it is well worth it IMHO.

No you cannot do Grand Canyon without staying overnight. Some may say that you can but round trip is a solid 10 hours of driving or more. That does not leave much time for sight seeing. The GC is well worth a seperate trip or at minimum, an overnight stay.

You need to rent a car for a whole day or maybe 2. Cars are more expensive rented at the airport. Try and see the grand canyon during sunset and the hoover dam at night. It is all lit up and a spectacular view.

If you don't want the hassle of driving you can take a bus tour to the Hoover Dam. Most of them make a stop at a gift shop and on the way back to the Chocolate Factory Ethel M's I believe. The tour I took was 4 hours.

I always find it useful to rent a car when I go to Vegas. Yes you can walk or take the bus or cab but walking gets tiring and cabs are expensive. We can usually rent a car for a week for about $100- $150. It also allows you to see more casinos if that is what you are interested in. there are quite a few just outside of Vegas and off the strip.

Rent a car. Try Thrifty as they seem to have pretty cheap rates. We always rent from them when in Vegas. You might also drive out to Red Rock Canyon if you are getting a car. It's pretty nice out there.
