I have been a working writer for 17 years. My website is www.finneganthepoet.com. I have long sought publication, but am really sick of the run around and bs. I believe in myself and my work, and can deliver excellent live performance. But publication is the only way I can be taken seriously and legitiamate. What do I do to get my work out there that doesnt involve me making some needless middleman rich, who' wont do a thing for me. Sick of running treadmills to nowhere..Please help...

Unfortunately, your question is a contradiction in itself.

If you want to be published conventionally, you will have to jump through the hoops and continue submitting to magazines, agents, and publishers who deal with the kind of poetry you write. Obviously, Writer's Market is the first step to finding those types of places, and then some independent research.

If you want to skip the middleman and the traditional publishing route, then self-publishing can be a good way to go. I suggest http://www.lulu.com with a high recommendation-- they are wonderful to work with. However, there will be no one to support your work but yourself. It will not appear in a real bookstore (although there are packages available that would get it into online bookstores). You will have to do all the marketing yourself. It is not easy.

Good luck!

I am a published author. My book of poetry was published by a company called iUniverse (www.iuniverse.com). You don't need any literary agents or anything like that.

I would recommend this company to anyone interested in publishing. It is among the most affordable with a very quick turnaround as far as the industry goes. They basically hold your hand through the process.

Check it out, you'll be glad you did.
