I avoided piercing my ears for a while but clip-ons make me so itchy and sore and I'm getting a lovely pair of yellow gold hoops for Christmas so I decided to give it a try. I'm 20 and just deflowered my earlobes last night and let me tell you it was it irritating. Sterilized needles, ice cubes to numb my ears, cleansing alcohol, the whole shebang. It was especially difficult for me- I'm not sure if it was because the needles were too dull or because my lobes are extra firm. I kept singing Christmas carols to distract from the pain lol. It's going to be pretty annoying for a little while until they heal straight- I'm going to have clean my lobes with alcohol twice a day to prevent infection and constantly twist my earrings to prevent the holes from closing up. And last night one of my earrings fell out in bed and the hole closed up already and I had to repierce it. Arrrgh.

I was 10. My daughter was 9. If you go to a piercing site or a good peircing salon they dont recommend alcohol anymore, use sterile water twice daily or when ever they are crusty. Alcohol not only hurts, but it actually damages tissue. you only need to "twist" them once daily, constantly playing with them puts your at risk for infection and can actually impair healing. After 3 months you should be healed enough to change your earings daily. some people still find if they leave the earings out for more than a week in the first 6 months they might close so I would wear some type of earing daily. If you go to a piercing salon they can set you up with an earring that wont fall out for like 10 bucks.
signs of infection include swelling that does not resovle in a day or 2, hot skin, pain, drainage in more than an minimal amount. Oh and by peircing salon i dont mean that place in the mall... you want someone who does it professionally all the time, uses sterile equipment and has taken special classes.

STOP!!!!! Alcohol is the worst thing you can clean your ears with and twisting....don't do that either.
Ok look, there are gentle cleaning solutions on the market and to be quite honest plain warm water and soap will keep them clean.
Twisting is VERY BAD. Imagine things this way...you have a boo-boo and it scabs up. If you pick the scab does it heal faster or slower....slower. Your ear now has what is essentially a scab...stop picking it!!!
I hope you will go see a professional piercer to make sure you've not done any real damage to your lobes. If you used a regular size needle and put in an earring...the earring is bigger gauge than the needle and that is why you are hurting so much...that burning is from stretching right after a small piercing.
Oh, I was 8 when I got my first piercing...now I have many.

Do not get your daughters ears pierces at 2 weeks old. That's way too young, and she's not grown yet. :/ I'd wait till she's 5? I don't really know the right age to get a persons ears pierced. It's your decision, but for me 2 weeks old is too early.

You really should NOT have done that at home-doing it at home hurts like hell and it has a high chance of getting infected. I got my ears pierced when I was nine.

If you wanted to do it over because they closed up or whatever, go to a tattoo parlor because they can do it with needles, which are much safer than piercing guns.

do you mean when i did it or when i could keep them in?? lol. i peirced them like 3 times myself and my parents always found out and made me take them out. for my 15th birthday my dad finally let met and not only that he took me to do it. i was sooo excited. i knew they wouldnt let me get my second holes for a while till i was 18 but i did it anyway. i used
~http://earpiercer.com/
when i used needles myself it hurt and it never worked right. and to tell you the truth i prolly didnt make the holes go in a straight line from front to back. im sure they were crooked inside.
the earpeircer was really comfy compared to doing it with needles. it stung for a few minutes and then went away. better then trying to make your own holes and missing and redoing it and irritating the skin.
cleaning them a lot is really good. i did and they ended up healing faster. im still letting my 2nd holes heal but if this helps you...when you twist the earrings and they stop stinging or hurting you can take them out temporarily. (like 5 minutes)
its much easier to clean them without trying to get around the earring.
good luck and hope they heal for you nicely!

I was a few months old. In Virginia back then it was like my mother hung me out of a balcony window! But later all the new mommies would ask where to get it done for their daughters....
My second pair was done when I was 12. They hurt a bit. More than the other but I was so excited to have it done I didn't mind.
